Functional Movement Therapy (FMT) is a highly effective approach to the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of a variety of musculoskeletal ailments and sporting injuries. It combines hands-on treatment with functional movements to simultaneously stretch and strengthen areas of your body in an integrated way.
Lower and upper back pain
Foot and ankle pain
Repetitive strain injuries
Sports injuries (football, rugby, netball, racket sport, etc)
Golf related injuries
Poor balance and coordination
Deconditioned muscles and joints
Difficulties with activities of daily living
FMT sessions begin with a 60-minute analysis. This involves a comprehensive evaluation of an individual’s three-dimensional movement capacity using ‘authentic’ movements that relate to real-life/functional activities, such as walking, squatting, lunging, balancing and reaching. This allows for an in-depth screen of the body’s major joint complexes (foot, ankle, knee, hip, spine and shoulders) and can quickly identify underlying biomechanical impairments that may predispose to injury and impede athletic performance.
Once movement impairments have been identified following analysis, a unique blend of functional movement and hands-on manual therapy is employed to restore joint mobility, flexibility, stability, strength, balance and co-ordination. Bespoke stretching and exercise programmes are then provided to continue the rehabilitation process and prevent reoccurrences. The result? You’ll be back to full function quicker that you thought possible!
On completion of rehabilitation, sessions are progressed towards higher levels of strength and conditioning in order to further enhance athletic performance. In the absence of injury and a need for rehabilitation, it is possible to progress straight from Analysis to Performance sessions.
